Human subcutaneous adipose tissue and perithyroid adipose tissue gene expression
  • organism-icon Homo sapiens
  • sample-icon 16 Downloadable Samples
  • Technology Badge Icon Affymetrix Human Genome U133 Plus 2.0 Array (hgu133plus2)

Description

Different human adipose tissue depots may have functional differences. Subcutaneous human adipose tissue has been extensively studied, but less is known about other depots. Perithyroid (PT) adipose tissue contains not only white adipocytes but also brown adipocytes. The aim of this study was to compare the expression of brown adipocyte containing perithyroid adipose tissue with s.c. adipose tissue.role in the development of obesity. Expression profiling of adipose tissue may give insights into mechanisms contributing to obesity and obesity-related disorders.

Publication Title

Gene expression in human brown adipose tissue.

Effect of Valproic Acid on Endothelial Cells
  • organism-icon Homo sapiens
  • sample-icon 10 Downloadable Samples
  • Technology Badge Icon Affymetrix Human Gene 1.0 ST Array (hugene10st)

Description

Valproic acid (VPA) is a short-chain fatty acid used in the treatment of epilepsy and also considered to be an epigenetic modifier by functioning as a histone deacetylase (HDAC)-inhibitor. The aim of this study was to search for gene altered by VPA in human endothelial cells.

Publication Title

Role of histone acetylation in the stimulatory effect of valproic acid on vascular endothelial tissue-type plasminogen activator expression.

Time kinetics of gene expression in NK92 cells after Plasmodium falciparum-iRBC encounter
  • organism-icon Homo sapiens
  • sample-icon 21 Downloadable Samples
  • Technology Badge Icon Affymetrix Human Gene 1.0 ST Array (hugene10st)

Description

To study the effect of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes on gene expression in NK92 cells, microarray analysis after 6, 12 and 24 hours of co-culture with either uRBC or iRBC was performed. The aim was to identify pathways in NK92 cells that are switched on after iRBC encounter in a time-dependent manner that will help to understand the mechanisms in innate immune defenses against Plasmodium falciparum infection.

  • Technology Badge Icon Affymetrix Human Genome U133 Plus 2.0 Array (hgu133plus2)

Description

The involvment of bile acids such as deoxycholic acid (DCA) in gastro-esophageal reflux disease and subsequent Barretts metaplsia has been postulated. This study examines gene expression induced by exposure to DCA in esophageal cells and may be utilised in cross-comparisons with data derived from gene expression studies of Barretts esophagus and associated adenocarcinoma.

Analyses of iHC transcriptome profiles
  • organism-icon Mus musculus

  • Technology Badge Icon Affymetrix Mouse Gene 2.1 ST Array (mogene21st)

Description

Mechanosensory hair cells (HCs) are the primary receptors of our senses of hearing and balance. However, very little is known about the transcriptional regulators involved in HC fate determination and differentiation. In this paper, we show that expression of three HC lineage-specific transcription factors: Gfi1, Pou4f3 and Atoh1, can induce a direct commitment towards HC fate during in vitro embryonic stem cell (ESC) differentiation. Induced HCs (iHCs) express numerous HC-specific genes and exhibit polarized membrane protusions reminiscent of stereociliary bundles.

Publication Title

Generation of sensory hair cells by genetic programming with a combination of transcription factors.

Description

This study utilise the examination of normal gastro-intestinal tissues to determine a tissue specific signal for use in deriving the intestinal signature of intestinal metaplasias of the oesophagus. Normal oesophageal, colonic and duodenal tissue biopsies were taken after informed consent and RNA was extracted following histological examination of adjacent tissues for normal aperaing mucosa.

Publication Title
